President & CEO - Upper Valley Business Alliance

The Upper Valley Business Alliance (UVBA), a regional chamber of commerce located in Lebanon, New Hampshire, seeks a visionary, strategic, and community-minded leader to serve as its next President and CEO. UVBA represents over 450 businesses and organizations throughout the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire and Vermont. UVBA’s mission is to promote and support the economic development and vitality of the communities it serves.

About Us:

Our programs and initiatives span business advocacy, tourism and workforce promotion, the arts and member networking opportunities. Programs include the Upper Valley Young Professionals, the Upper Valley BIPOC Network, the Upper Valley Arts Alliance, and downtown support initiatives in Hanover and Norwich VT. UVBA serves to support tourism and the visitor economy and provides support for new businesses and entrepreneurs. UVBA provides advocacy on local, state and federal legislation that affects our communities and region. The President/CEO also oversees the UVBA Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to community development.

The Role:

  • Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President and CEO is the public face and chief strategist of the organization. This leader will:
  • Collaborate with the Board to develop and implement strategic goals and annual action plans that promote business growth and community development.
  • Represent and advocate for UVBA members at the local, state, and federal levels which includes creating awareness and facilitating grant submissions.
  • Oversee all operations, budgeting, financial management, staffing, and organizational development.
  • Drive member engagement, recruitment, retention, and the growth of non-dues revenue while providing valuable benefits and networking opportunities.
  • Foster key relationships with businesses, civic leaders, and government officials.
  • Serve as spokesperson for the UVBA across all media and public engagements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic planning and execution in collaboration with the Board.
  • Financial oversight, including budget preparation, monthly reporting, fundraising and
  • revenue generation to support UVBA operations..
  • Staff management, development, and leadership in a collaborative team environment.
  • Government affairs liaison, working closely with local and state policymakers.
  • Volunteer motivation and support for UVBA initiatives.
  • Member engagement and communications across traditional and digital platforms.

We are looking for a dynamic leader who brings:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, communications, or related field
  • (master’s preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of executive-level leadership, ideally in a chamber of commerce, non-profit, or business association.
  • Proven fiscal responsibility and budget management experience.

Leadership & Skills

  • Demonstrated success in setting vision, leading teams, and achieving measurable outcomes.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and multitasking capabilities.
  • Ability to think strategically and act decisively with a big-picture mindset.
  • Skilled at building partnerships, embracing diversity, and fostering community engagement.

Communications & Advocacy

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Comfort serving as a public spokesperson and working with the media.
  • Deep understanding of public policy, government relations, and advocacy strategy.
  • Community Engagement: Strong ability to build relationships and work with community stakeholders.
  • Advocacy and Policy: Knowledge of government relations and the ability to advocate for the interests of the business community.

Marketing, Public Relations and Business Development

  • Ability to promote UVBA and its services to the public.
  • Event Management - Experience in planning and executing events and programs.
  • Marketing skills and creative thinking to promote UVBA members and programs, including knowledge of digital marketing.
  • Membership/business development – focus on attracting and retaining members, and revenue through sponsorships, programs, fundraising and grants.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Work location: UVBA office in West Lebanon, NH and event locations.
  • This position requires occasional travel. This position may require evening or weekend work on occasion.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and infrequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
