We are excited to be partnering with Blizzard Tecnica’s Women2Women Program to host a Women + Non-Binary uphill demo day at Whaleback Mountain on Saturday, March 2nd from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
The day will include multiple group uphill tours, gear demos, educational talks, a women’s ski film, and a gear raffle for all participants who join us.
The day will include multiple group uphill tours, free uphill ski AND split-board gear demos, educational talks, a women’s ski film, and a gear raffle for all participants who join us. We have partnered with an array of different shops, companies, and organizations to provide more value and gear access for all attendees.
There is a $30 registration fee to join this event. Additionally, you will need to purchase an uphill ticket for Whaleback that costs $10. Like all of our events, we believe in making the outdoors accessible for all. With this in mind a code is available on the registration page to waive our registration fee for anyone with financial barriers.
Details
Uphill Gear Demos: offered by Blizzard Tecnica, Jones, and Base Camp starting at 10:00 AM with all gear returned by 4:00 PM. We will have both uphill ski touring equipment and split-boarding equipment available for demo. Though we will have a large array of equipment on hand, demo equipment goes out on a first come first serve basis.
Group Uphill Tours: offered all day by Inclusive Ski Touring. These will run approximately each hour on the hour with the first starting uphill at 11:00 AM and the last starting uphill at 3:00 PM.
Educational Talks
11:30 AM - 12:00 PM: Uphill Mechanics talk by Hilary McCloy. Hilary is a Physical Therapist, US Alpine Ski Team Alumni, and was the last woman standing at the 2023 Last Skier Standing. This talk will cover the basics of uphill mechanics for efficient skinning, getting in shape for ski season, and injury prevention. There will also be plenty of time for individual questions.
12:30 PM - 1:00 PM: Backcountry Ski Gear talk by Leslie Baker-Brown. Leslie is the Global Leader for the Women2Women Program at Blizzard Tecnica. There are lots of options when it comes to backcountry ski gear. Leslie will help us understand the range of gear available and cover the basics of boot fitting and ski selection.
1:30 PM - 2:00 PM: Intro to Backcountry Skiing, How to Leave the Resort talk by Meg Pierce and Sam Trombley. Meg is a member of Inclusive Ski Touring’s Board of Directors. Sam works for Granite Backcountry Alliance and Backyard Concept. Curious about how to leave the resort setting and safely enter the backcountry? Come and chat with Meg and Sam about various options on how and where to begin your backcountry adventures.
2:30 PM - 3:00 PM: How To Layer For The Backcountry talk by Hilary McCloy with Norrøna, Katherine Donnelly with Trew Gear, and a representative from Burgeon Outdoor. Layering for ski touring can be difficult. Join these three awesome ladies to talk about how to stay dry and warm through proper layering. They will discuss how to properly layer for various types of weather, moisture management, and what to keep in your pack.
Gear Raffle: Starting at approximately 4:00 PM in the upstairs bar and made possible by each of the brands in the graphic below.
Women’s Ski Film: Screening at approximately 4:15 PM (after gear raffle) located in the upstairs bar.
The raffle will be after the last group tour is done, and the film will start after the raffle.
