Weaponizing Commerce: The New Era of Industrial Policy and National Security

Tariffs, export controls, and industrial policy have moved to the center of U.S. strategy, reshaping supply chains in semiconductors, critical minerals, and advanced manufacturing. In an event moderated by Professor Davin Chor (Globalization Chair of the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth), Ambassador Frank Lavin will discuss how policymakers are using these tools in the name of strategic competition, economic resilience, and the reduction of dependency on adversarial states. The conversation will also address the tradeoffs behind today’s policy shift and explore whether these initiatives can deliver both security and efficiency, examining the ramifications for national security on global commerce and vice versa.
