Can DIPLOMACY Still Solve GLOBAL CHALLENGES and Build PEACE? In a fast-changing world increasingly shaped by technology, trade, and tech titans, what role does an institution like diplomacy – dating back to Carthage, Mohammed, and Ghenghis Khan – have to play in the future? From regulating AI to arms control, from mitigating climate change to accelerating economic development, from controlling diseases to solving inequality, from preventing wars to promoting democracy; diplomacy – and the human networks and relationships it fosters – is central and critical. Retired Ambassador Erica Barks Ruggles, and Dickey Center Director Tori Holt will discuss the central role diplomacy continues to play in the global village. How we work together to solve complex challenges now and in the future will rely on the strength of our connections to friends, allies, and foes around the world. Students will hear how their voices are increasingly important in the world of diplomacy and how they can contribute.
