Join local textile artist Meredith Smith to explore the world of mending and repurposing old or worn clothing. This is a beginner friendly class, but all experience levels are welcome! This workshop will guide participants in ways to reuse, repurpose, recycle, or mend a favorite garment. Old, worn, moth-holed, or outgrown does not mean useless or headed to a land fill. Learn new and innovative ways to bring new life into a much-loved garment. Basic sewing skills are suggested but not required. Materials suggested: sharp sewing scissors seam ripper pin cushion with sharp pins and needles thread to match garment to be worked on and basting thread fabric marker or tailors chalk (optional) sewing machine Who is Meredith Smith? Meredith Smith holds a BFA and MAT from Rhode Island School of Design and did post graduate study in costume and theater design at Brown University. Her career includes costume designer, jewelry designer, college professor, and owner/manager of a London based mail order clothing company. Meredith has been State Juried member of the League of NH Craftsmen for over 30 years, focusing on one-of-a-kind clothing and soft sculpture and serving as a juror for League applicants. Currently, Meredith heads the Open Fiber Arts Studio at AVA Gallery. She strives for excellence in craftsmanship in the Shaker tradition.
