Did you know that the US is the largest consumer of pernambuco bows made with illegal wood? At the CITES convention in November 2022, officials yelled at the League of American Orchestras representative, accusing the musical community of ignoring international laws to protect endangered species. We love our bows. Buying a Pernambuco bow has become a Rite of Passage for many string instrument players. If we want Pernambuco to be part of our music tradition in the future, we have to change now – and we have 3 years to do it.
