Saturday, April 18 Upper Valley Music Center Free admission for conversation and jam, $30 workshop fee
Join us for an afternoon of artist and artisan workshops!
1:00 pm Fiddle Workshop: We’ll take a fun approach in Bruce’s old time fiddle workshop and dig into a few tunes, first melody, then bowing, and then piecing things together. It’s all about old-time music’s unique phrasing, rhythm and syncopation, intonation, etc. Bruce will demonstrate some regional styles and tunings, too, but mostly we’ll be playing!
1:00 pm Bread Workshop: Join author and baker Martin Philip for a bread talk, short demonstration, and Q&A on all things baking. Martin will lead an engaging bread talk and live demo that blends craft, science, and story. He’ll cover the essentials of great bread, from fermentation to shaping and baking, demystifying sourdough and sharing practical tips along the way. Warm, approachable, and informative, the session will leave home bakers inspired and more confident in their own kitchens.
2:30 pm Conversation and Q&A with Bruce and Martin: Join masters of fiddle and flour for a lively conversation on music making and bread baking, followed by Q&A.
3:30 pm Old Time Jam Session: All instruments welcome for an old-time jam led by Bruce, Martin, and special guest Annie McDougall on fiddle and banjo.
