Lisa McBride Appointed Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine

HANOVER, NH - Geisel School of Medicine Dean Duane Compton, PhD, has appointed Lisa McBride, PhD, as the school’s associate dean for diversity, equity and inclusion (ADDEI), effective August 8. McBride is a nationally recognized expert on URiM (underrepresented in medicine) faculty and student recruitment, health equity, and diversity and inclusion strategic planning with more than a decade of experience leading diversity efforts and more than 25 years of academic experience.

"I am delighted to welcome Dr. McBride as the new Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion,” says Dean Compton. “She brings a depth of experience to our school, and I am excited to begin working with her to support our student programs."

McBride comes to Dartmouth from Texas Christian University (TCU) School of Medicine, where she served as the associate dean for diversity and inclusion and professor of medical education. During her tenure at TCU, McBride developed various signature programs in an effort to achieve Inclusive Excellence, including the Diversity and Inclusion Mentoring Network program, Med Safe Zone training, the Black Men in White Coats initiative, a Surgeons General Roundtable series, the Out for Health student conference, a Latina STEM+M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics plus Medicine) and Biomedical Opportunities Summer Pipeline program, and a longitudinal Health Equity curriculum track.

Prior to joining TCU, she held similar diversity leadership positions for Salem State University (MA), Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, California University of Pennsylvania, and faculty positions within the Florida College System.

“I am thrilled beyond words to come to Geisel at such a time as this,” says McBride. “Dean Compton’s commitment to guiding Geisel’s culture toward inclusive excellence and belonging is truly monumental. He clearly recognizes that as a model, Inclusive Excellence assimilates diversity efforts into the core of institutional functioning to realize the educational benefits of diversity.

“I am honored to step into the ADDEI role and to help build on the efforts already underway at Geisel and look forward to synthesizing and integrating such efforts into a visible, innovative strategy for enhancing diversity, equity, access inclusion, and belonging across the campus. This work extends to all aspects of life, teaching, and living communities of Dartmouth College. While we have work to do, I strongly believe together we can develop a national model of inclusive excellence.”

In her new role at Geisel, McBride will lead the medical school’s Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement, working closely with Geisel’s senior leadership and Dartmouth’s senior vice president and senior diversity officer, as well as the leadership of Dartmouth Health, the White River Junction Veteran Affairs Medical Center, and Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies, to build a diverse and inclusive community of learners. She will play a key role in developing and implementing new diversity and inclusivity initiatives in support of Geisel’s forthcoming strategic plan.
