COVID-19 may have stolen the headlines, but beneath the radar a number of significant developments in treatment of disease are emerging, including the use of stem cells, engineered immune cells, and gene editing, as well as diagnosis using DNA and RNA sequencing. Alzheimer’s disease and cancer are common foci for improving healthcare while the effects of climate change are spurring genetic research in food science. Ethical issues that may arise from the application of the new-found technology are also to be examined.
