Exhibition | Shape/Shift: Objects and Non-Objectives

This group show honors the legacy of minimalism, abstract, and non-objective movements. March 14-April 26 Artist reception: Friday, April 4, 5-7 pm The Linda Roesch Visual Arts Gallery at AVA In the 1960s a group of American artists, including Sol LeWitt and Donald Judd, embraced the philosophy of non-objective art. By creating highly simplified geometric art out of industrial materials they elevated these to an aesthetic level. Their work became known as minimal art. Non-objective art is a general term that defines abstract art forms that lack adherence to identifiable, quantifiable, and observable characteristics of the living world, in other words, non-representational. “Non-objective art may attempt to visualize the spiritual and can be seen as carrying a moral dimension, standing for virtues like purity and simplicity.” This group show honors the legacy of minimalism, abstract, and non-objective movements.
